Activities
Children learn when they are in a safe and caring environment where they are stimulated through play.
Babies and young children develop best when they are in caring relationship with an adult. A baby will learn to walk faster when they have a safe pair of arms to walk towards and learn to talk, when they have an adult listening and responding to them.
I will strive to provide your child with an environment that will be caring, fun and stimulating.
I will provide activities that support the main learning areas:
Free play
I have a wide range of toys available including jigsaws, books, musical instruments, garage and cars, dolls and pushchair, train sets, board games, lacing beads, fuzzy felts, mega blocks, wooden bricks, stacking blocks, toy animals, tool bench, toy kitchen, dolls house, dressing up, ride on toys, plus many other toys for toddlers, all toys are rotated on a regular basis. The children enjoy a daily story and are free to read alone at anytime.
Art & Craft
I provide many craft activities that everyone enjoys such as painting, drawing, gluing, papier- mache, play-dough, baking and many others.
Group play
We sing songs and rhymes and play games such as role play, board games, musical chairs/statues hopscotch and football.
Outdoors
We go outside daily when the weather permits. We also have great fun playing games such as, egg and spoon races. we visit the local parks, the zoo, city farm, the library and nearby toddler groups. We enjoy nature walks and always make the most of a sunny day with a picnic. If the weather is not so good we enjoy going to museums, soft play, the aquarium and Explore.
Nap/quiet time
I provide a separate rest room for the children to sleep, although if a child prefers they are always welcome to curl up on the sofa for a rest. For older children not needing a nap then quiet time is spent reading, playing quietly with jigsaws, fuzzy felts, beads or coloring, this gives them a little time out to recharge their batteries.
TV and Toys from home
Children are welcome to bring comfort items from home such as bedtime teddy, blanket or dummy but I request that children do not bring toys into the setting as they may find it hard to share with the other children and I cannot be responsible for the safety of the item. The television is put on if requested by the children, usually for ½ hour on an afternoon.
Daily Diary
Each child is provided with a daily diary which is taken home to read. This will record any achievements as well as covering all meals and snacks, daily activities and toys that have been played with. Any comments a parent wishes to add are appreciated as the diary can be useful way of exchanging information.
I will regularly observe your child and make a written record. This will enable me to make very simple plans on how I can help your child move onto the next stage of their development. These records are available for you to look at anytime.
If there is a particular activity that you would like me to do with your child, please let me know. I am very happy to support activities that you are doing at home or events that have happened. For example if you have been to a wedding I can continue this theme by providing the children with material to use as wedding clothes and help them to understand through books and other resources.
